Are there course materials?
There are no required books for this program. Comprehensive lectures, presentations and video lessons will be distributed online for each class. Analytics case studies and associated datasets for analysis will be made available for each class. All can be downloaded from the course website. The cost of these materials is included in the course fee. Each class is recorded and made available as a video download.
Is there required software?
Projects will require the use of free software. Instructions on how to download and use the software will be provided before the first class.
Is this class very technical?
All instruction in this class is with a business/marketing analytics focus. Some topics need technical details such as statistics concepts or programming. However, these topics will be discussed such that a non-technical person can understand and perform. The class is intended to develop business/marketing analysts NOT technical data scientists. At every stage, theory is integrated with the technology. A wide variety of examples and applications is presented for each topic discussed. No technical/statistical knowledge is required to take the class. Upon completion, you will have a good and varied foundation of the major techniques used in business/marketing analytics.
Do I need a computer?
You will need access to a computer (Windows or Mac OS X) and a reliable (broadband) connection to the Internet. You will be given instructions on how to connect remotely to SPSS and SAS to run all the course analyses.
Do I get DePaul credit for these classes?
No, but some have been approved for continuing education units (CEUs). These classes are professional education classes, with different requirements than courses taken for academic credit.
How big is the class?
Class size is limited to allow for a more interactive environment. Most classes have about 10-15 students.
Will I have to write papers and take exams?
You will work a small analytics case study each week. You will not be graded, but you will receive feedback on each assignment. At the end of the course, you will have a business/marketing analytics project to complete successfully in order to receive a certificate.
How do I access the online course?
You will be sent a username and password the first week of class.
Will I have to go online at specific times?
No – the course is offered in an asynchronous format. You will be expected to go online at least once a week (preferably more frequently). The instructor will also be available online to schedule time with students to guide and answer any questions.
What is the difference between a certificate and a certification?
A certificate is earned after completion of a course or a series of courses. Certificates are usually awarded by a training provider or an educational institution. Certification typically includes an experience, an educational component and requires passing an exam. Certifications are awarded by governmental and/or professional agencies and often require recertification to remain certified.
