Business Essentials Certificate Program

DePaul University's Business Essentials Certificate Program is a combination of courses and certificate programs that introduce you to the fundamental concepts of business. This program combines a range of DePaul's Continuing and Professional Education courses that together form a solid base of business knowledge and skills. Whether you're a new manager or a professional transitioning into the business environment, you will find this program of instruction immediately applicable to your career.

Upon completing the Business Essentials Certificate Program, you will have a fundamental understanding of business management, human resources, marketing, accounting and finance.

The curriculum consists of four required courses and two electives chosen from the following options:

Essentials of Human Resource Management Certificate Program
Finance and Accounting for Non-Financial Professionals
Building an Effective Marketing Plan Certificate Program
Basic Management Skills Certificate Program

Introduction to Organizational Development
Employment Law
Negotiation Strategies and Skills Certificate Program
Professional Business Writing Certificate Program
Effective Presentation and Communication Skills Certificate Program

Can I apply my Workforce Investment Act (WIA) grant towards this program?
Yes. The Business Essentials Certificate Program is designed to be compatible in both hours and content with Workforce Investment Act (WIA) grants. Contact the program manager listed on the specific course page for more information about applying your WIA grant to this program.

Will I earn a certificate by completing the Business Essentials Program?
This program is a combination of individual courses and programs. Upon successful completion of the five required courses and two elective courses, you will receive a certificate. In addition, many of the programs that you will complete during the Business Essentials Program are certificate programs.

If I have previously taken a course in the Business Essentials Program curriculum, can I apply it to this program?
Yes. The course can count towards the program if you have completed it in the last five years and received a PASS or grade of C or better.

If you intend to apply a WIA grant to the certificate, however, that funding cannot be applied to courses you have previously taken.

Can I transfer a course from another school to this program?
No. Courses from programs outside of DePaul University CPE cannot apply to this program.

Can I substitute in another DePaul CPE course?
A course from another CPE program may be submitted by the discretion of the program manager.

How long do I have to complete this program?
All courses must be completed within six months of enrolling in the program.
